Collection and use of personal data
Booking.com International B.V., a company based in the Netherlands, is the data controller for any personal data you submit through our Site during your job application process.
We use this information to:
- Recognize you as an applicant;
- Recognize if you are entering the Site through a referral link;

- Improve the Site, to mitigate risk and prevent fraud.
Personal data submitted by you
As part of your application, you will be required to submit personal data, otherwise we will not be able to process your application. This includes personal data such as:
- Contact information, such as your first name, last name, city, country, email and phone number;
- Resume and cover letter;
- Desired salary;
- Position of interest;
- Assessment result (if applicable);
- Employee referral or other sources.
We may also obtain personal data about you from third parties such as recruitment firms. The personal data you submitted and any additional personal data will be used to assess your skills and interest in career opportunities at Booking.com and to process your application.
We may share your personal data with members of the Booking.com Group to assess whether your profile fits with the vacancy. Access to your personal data will be shared with employees or agents of Booking.com on a need to know basis. Booking.com is part of The Priceline Group. If you apply for a function with relevance for The Priceline Group, your application may be shared with The Priceline Group Inc. in Norwalk, Connecticut, United States of America. We may need to involve service providers to process your personal data. These service providers will always act on our behalf and they will be obligated to protect your personal data consistently with the terms of this privacy statement. We may need to disclose your personal data when we believe, in our sole discretion, that this is necessary to:
- protect the legal rights and/or safety of Booking.com and/or its employees, agents and contractors;
- respond to inquiries or requests of public authorities;
- comply with the law or a legal process.
In accordance with European data protection laws, we use appropriate business systems and procedures to protect and safeguard the personal data you give us. Only authorized personnel are permitted to access your personal data in the course of their work.
Depending on the vacancy, you may be requested to perform an online assessment to establish whether you meet certain job requirements (e.g. language tests, job preview and competency test if you want to work for the customer service team, language tests and translation tests if you want to work for the content team, or a coding test if you want to work as a software developer). A decision could be taken by automated means (i.e. algorithms) which you will receive via an automatically generated notification. Your assessment results shall be automatically transferred to Booking.com and will be part of your application file. Your assessment results may be used to provide specific training and/or coaching during the employment with Booking.com and your assessment results may be shared with managers and/or coaches for this purpose.
If you do not meet the assessment requirements, your job application procedure shall be terminated. Consequently you may be blocked from applying for the same position within Booking.com through the Site for 6 months. This is to prevent job applicants from undertaking several assessments in a short period of time. After 6 months you may apply again for the same position within Booking.com, including for the same job position.

If your application is successful, your personal data will be used for a pre-employment screening check by a third party. Depending on the vacancy, a pre-employment screening may include verification of skill proficiency, criminal history, financial history and other information that may be necessary for determining your qualifications for the open position at Booking.com. You will be informed thoroughly about the entire screening process beforehand separately.
Retention of personal data
If Booking.com employs you, Booking.com International B.V. shall share your relevant personal data with the employing member of the Booking.com Group. Your personal data collected during your application period will become part of your personnel records. Booking.com International B.V. may retain your personal data collected during your job application procedure for a period of 2 years following the end of the job application procedure, unless otherwise required by applicable law.
If Booking.com does not employ you, Booking.com International B.V. may nevertheless continue to retain and use your personal data in order to consider you for new positions. Booking.com may refer back to an earlier application in case you submit a new application in the future. In this respect Booking.com International B.V. may retain your personal data for a period of 2 years following termination of the job application procedure, unless otherwise required by applicable law. Accessing or changing your personal data
